Free Tuition

From kindergarten to grade 12 the public school system makes it free and accessible for everyone to begin their education, but if students wish to continue most will have to go into large amounts of debt. Years ago it was likely with a high school diploma that you would be able to get a well paying job, but according to the Washington Post this is no longer the case. A college degree is the new high school diploma, and we are making students go into huge amounts of debt just to live a middle-class lifestyle. Tuition needs to be free in British Columbia because accessible education will benefit personal growth and help society. Accessible education because of free tuition will affect people’s lives. According to the Go Abroad foundation, education can impact fundamental things such as confidence, interpersonal skills, healthy lifestyles, and fighting poverty. News Release

News Release  January 16 2:30pm  The National widget company is re-hiring 50 laid off employees in Victoria. Originally laid off in 2018, this company plans to hire back all 200 employees across Canada. “The increase in sales has been unprecedented. We think this opportunity opens up enormous markets which will last for years,” said National Widget Company President Andrew Bryce. Widget sales have increased steadily over the last couple of months. “We have sent recall notices to all employees who were laid off in June,” Bryce said. Employees will be called in over the next few weeks and in 6 weeks the plant will be working at full capacity. The National Widget Company has been producing widgets longer then any other company in Canada. It began in 1888 and is now run by the great-grandson of the  founder.

Nicole Crescenzi

Victoria News reporter Nicole Crescenzi came to Camosun College to discuss the importance of adaptability with her experience in communications and journalism. Her life has given her many obstacles in which she could not communicate properly, this showed her the importance of expressing yourself and lead her to her career. She eventually received a masters in journalism, bachelors in anthropology, and minor in professional writing. She began her career interning which eventually lead her to her current job at Victoria News. Crescenzi believes that to be successful in the fields of communication or journalism, you must “be a chameleon.” She has worked in radio, television, magazines, and newspapers. Crescenzi considers the different sources beneficial to her career. She also believes photography, videography and any other skills along those lines are assets.
